Camp Rocky 2020
58TH YEAR AND AWARD WINNING - CAMP ROCKY
July 11-17th 2021 | DIVIDE, COLORADO
For Immediate Release: Camp Rocky Cancellation Notice
Dated 5/19/2020 It is with sincere disappointment that the CACD Board of Directors have had to come to the difficult decision to cancel Camp Rocky this year due to the current crisis of the COVID-19 and the uncertainty of what the next few weeks and months look like for the opening of summer camps in the State of Colorado. In the May 11th update from Governor Jared Polis, it is our understanding he stated that a decision on the operation of summer camps would be made May 25 at the earliest. We know that this decision will be based on the collective health data at that time, and on guidance given to the Governor’s office as to what June and the following months will look like. We felt we held on as long as we could before making this tough decision. CACD has been weighing the ability to meet public health recommendations and the issue of limited fundraising opportunities. We also realized we were running out of time to prepare volunteers and instructors with the newly required background checks and now the training of possible requirements to meet heightened health and safety precautions. Concerns include social distancing, access to masks, sanitation practices, and a proper protocol for mealtimes. There is also the issue of campers being able to get a cleared physical from their doctors The longer that the guidance is delayed, the more challenging it has become to continue in a holding pattern of “wait and see.” These are the reasons for our difficult decision. We cannot express enough to everyone involved how much the statewide support of this youth camp means to us and the gratitude we have toward our conservation districts, our state and local partners and to everyone who help to make it a success! We look forward to building a strong comeback for Camp Rocky 2021! Kindest Regards, Bobbi Ketels CACD Executive Director Colorado Association of Conservation Districts.
